Inflation and its future direction have been rather frustratingly the key issue for a long time now. Hard landing, soft landing or something in between and the actual news is often spun to suit a particular narrative. Most agree that the inflation trend is downward, and this will accelerate but after the froth has been knocked off, the big question is what remains and how sticky that will be.
Wage inflation remains a daily conversation on the news as do the strikes that have followed. A very tight labour market is bad news for inflation and also for the economy which is why Jeremy Hunt is so keen for early retirees to come back to work.
