Guilty your honour!
I’m much better than I used to be but I still have to remind myself periodically what a balanced life looks like. The good news is that I have in place a strategy that enables me to concentrate solely on the ‘stuff’ I enjoy and the things I’m good at which, in turn, lets me make more of a difference to others and experience greater personal fulfilment.
Only a couple of weeks ago a long standing client was being appreciative of how we had influenced his thinking and shifted his mindset about money and the way he lives his life. He then turned the tables on me and asked “you give everyone else great advice but how are you getting on with your own work/life balance”?
Thank you John!
He was right to ask though. Am I like the builder who never finishes off his house? Or like the lawyer who doesn’t have a Will? Fortunately, I have recognised my shortcomings and have a plan in place. John was pleased to hear it.
Last week I met a couple who are new to our Comprehensive Planning. They impressed me with their clarity about what they wanted to achieve and the budget they needed. But I wanted to understand why they were so clear in their thinking and why they need me to help them plan?
During our first meeting they told me they had both recently had illnesses that were potentially debilitating. There is nothing like a threat to your health to make you grasp the nettle and work out what is important! Boy, have they got some great things planned for retirement, but you might be wondering why they came to Blue Sky?
Simply, they wanted the confidence to leave their respective professions and be able to fulfil their dreams without having to worry about money. Their spreadsheets suggested they could but their thoughts needed ratifying. Guess what, it was even better than they expected. Their enthusiasm for their own plans has even gone up a gear or two!
As I have said many times, we all have choices but it’s so easy to stay with the status quo or remain in a rut until a crisis comes along and dictates your future. Good health provides a freedom that very few people appreciate until they haven’t got it anymore.
The future is in your hands. The future is in planning.
