Blue Sky Comment
After the carnage that unfolded in equity markets just before Christmas we have seen a significant recovery across most equity markets. The FTSE 100 for example has risen by 6.2% as of close of play on Thursday, the 10th January.
Are we out of the woods?
It’s clear that we are embroiled in an unstable world politically, but some positive news around US job figures, a less aggressive Federal Reserve policy and hopes of a compromise between US and China on trade deals, has given hope to investors. Expect continued volatility but as we stated in our recent communications, equity market sentiment and fundamentals have de-coupled, suggesting that a ‘pick-up’ in values was to be expected. In other words, the equity markets were oversold.
