Before you start thinking “oh no, what’s Gary up to now” – don’t panic!
No, I’m not going to engage in an evening of bare chested decadence, sequins and flamboyance. Phew! Our concert at Mr Kyp’s in Poole 3 years ago was enough… some say a step too far!
It was during a conversation with one of our existing clients the other day when, inadvertently, I uttered the line “it’s important that your finances dance in step with your life”. This hit a chord with the client concerned as she is a Strictly fan and instantly related to what I meant.
Let me give you some context. I’m fascinated by what influences our behaviour and decision making. In this instance, the client was in a fantastic place financially yet was still anchored in the old behaviours borne out of necessity, when she didn’t have anywhere near as much money. I want her to spend more. I want her to enjoy her money whilst she has good health. I want her to dance in tune with the music being played now and not what has been played before. It’s no good doing the Foxtrot when Latino is required!
As the music changes, so should your dance routine.
Visualising positive behaviours is really important for most of us to achieve our potential. You hear it in sport all the time. Why shouldn’t we use this approach to improve our quality of life? It just happened to be Strictly this time. The important thing is that we created an emotional connection around all the numbers. The challenge now, for my client, is to step into the next phase of her life with confidence.
Our Comprehensive Financial Planning approach demonstrates that she would never run out of money, even if she spent more.
Our Comprehensive Financial Planning approach allows her to think seriously about helping the family now, when they need it, not when she ‘pops her clogs’ and won’t be around to see the difference she has made!
So, what dance are you doing? Are you in time with the music that is playing in your life right now?
Take control and feel the rhythm – it’s a great feeling when you get this right. Lessons can be booked at Blue Sky Financial Planning!
Kind regards,
Gary
