Justin Urquhart Stewart from 7IM, the well known financial commentator on TV and radio held a joint seminar in conjunction with Blue Sky Financial Planning Ltd at our offices in Coy Pond, Poole.
Justin delivered a lively and stimulating view of the world financial markets to an audience of 40 people represented by professional services companies, clients and invited guests.
Justin spoke about expected and unexpected issues for the investment markets focussing on such matters as inflation, fuel and food prices and sovereign debt problems along with the difficulties experienced in North Africa & the Middle East and the terrible events which unfolded in Japan.
Both, Gary Neild, Managing Director of Blue Sky and Justin spoke about the importance of having a co-ordinated financial plan and creating a cash-flow forecast for the rest of your life. The emphasis was about enjoying your money whilst you have your health but do so in the knowledge that all financial eventualities are covered. Businesses which tend to be successful are those with a robust business plan which is evaluated frequently. It should be no different for individuals and their families.
At the heart of any financial plan is the investment strategy and Justin identified that the choice of asset class (i.e. commodities etc), at the appropriate stage of the economic cycle, is the key driver of investment performance over the long term. Careful consideration however should be given to an individuals’ risk approach.
